Diary
Fredericia
Right after leaving Virlund yesterday four spokes in Asia's bike broke and we had to go to a service. We spent much money on changing the spokes, but they did an inspection of our bikes additionally, so we hope that everyting will work well from now on. We slept in a wooden chalet in Lundum, 10 km from Horsens. Today we have covered 106 km. We've been to Jelling- a place registered on the UNESCO World Heritage List- but it was not intersting. We are in Fredericia now. We sleep at very hospitable couple's place. It's our last night in Jutland. Tomorrow after visiting the town we will go to Odense, on the Funen island. We invite you to see our new photos.
Virklund
On Wednesday we went to the south of Arhus, we visited the castle gardens, the Ethnographic Museum and the Deer Park. Asia manage to stroke a doe We spent the evening pleasantly with Magnus, and in the mornig we had to get up and go in the direction of Silkeborg. The road went through the Danish Lakeland. We slept in the tent in Virklund at a very nice couple's place. Today we rode on one of the highest peaks, called Himmelbjerket, which means "the Heavenly Mountain". There's a very nice view of a lake and of other hills. We're going to go in the direction of Horsens now.
Arhus
We've been visiting the town for the whole day today. We were in the cathedral, museum and in the heritage park. Houses from all parts of Denmark had been brought to the Den Gamble By Heritage Park. One can see an everyday life of a Danish merchant town there- equipped workshops, housewives frying pancakes and organgrinder playing in the street Tomorrow we will have the second day of visiting, we're planning to go to a deer reserve.
Arhus
We haven't post entries for a long time, because we didn't have access to the Internet. On Friday we were in the oceanarium in Hirtshals. We have seen a lot of seals there and we liked it very much. Later, we went to Skagen by a road for bicycles. On the way we climbed some moving dunes. Grenen, where waters of the Baltic Sea hit those of the Northern Sea, is a very beautiful place. We slept in a low-rise wooden cottage, not far away from Skagen.
On Saturday it rained and the wind blew strongly. Moreover, the area was hilly and we arrived at Aalborg late after covering 120 km in a hard struggle. By chance, we appeared at a birthday party of a Pole, but being very tired we left soon. We slept in a student flat in the outskirts of the town.
On Sunday we got up late and went to Lindholm Hoje, where the oldest Viking cemetery is located. We went south and after covering 80 km we spent the night in a small village- Dalbynedder. There were snails everywhere in the morning, they were in the tent, in our shoes, bags and mugs. today was a very hot day, like it hadn't been before. We covered 73 km and we're in Arhus now. The town is big and looks interesting. Tomorrow we are going to visit it. We gonna spend three nights here, in a flat of a nice Icelander, Magnus
We invite You to see the gallery.
Hjorring
Yesterday morning we were given some delicious warm rolls. We also got the recipe and we're going to repeat this pleasure in Poland We didn't manage to Brovst, but we arrived at Klim yesterday, which is 5 km from Fjerritslev. On the way we wanted to see the cliff in Bulbjerg, but the road was wrongly marked and we lost the way ;/ We slept in the tent and got up early in the morning to go to Hjørring. We were here before 6 p.m., we visited the town and we will sleep at Sofie's, who belongs to the Hospitality Club. Tomorrow we are going to the largest oceanarium in Europe, and to the northernmost point of Denmark - Skagen, where waters of the Northern Sea meet those of the Baltic Sea.
Hvidbjerg - 20 km from Struer
Yesterday we covered about 120 km. We know that because our meter works, though it counts distance in miles and has to be read from an acute angle Yesterday, the weather was nice all day. Around Lemvig we mistook the road and roamed in a wood for more than an hour. In Hvidbjerg we wanted to ask where we could put up our tent, but nobody opened the door :/ Finally we succeeded and could put up the tent in an amiable family's garden. It rained all night long and even our tent was wet here and there. At the moment, the weather is fine and we are setting off in a moment. We would like to arrive at Brovst today, but probably won't manage to do it...
Ringkobing
Yesterday we got up late, the weather was very windy, and unfortunately we didn't manage to cover the whole distance we planned to. On the way we visited the port and the old town in Esbjerg; for the night we stayed in Guldager. We went to ask if we could put up our tent in a garden and it turned out that in the house lived a Pole, who took care of us We wanted to make up for the lost time, so we got up early and set out to Ringkobing fjord. The road went through beautiful grassy dunes. It was a little bit hilly and our legs hurt. Fortunately, Misiek sent us phone numbers to the people belonging to Hospitality Club, who live in this town. Therefore we spent the night at the house of a very nice man Jakub, whose sister cooked a typical danish dinner for us. We are not even able to pronounce the name of that meal, but it is spelt: frikadeller.
Gansager - 15 km from Ribe
It's our third day in Denmark. We didn't have any adventures during the train travel. We slept a bit in the train to Szczecin, and all of our four train changes went smoothly. During the first night we slept at a house of a Polish doctor- Andrzej. He also arrange a place where we could put up our tent on the following day. It rained heavily in the morning and Asia got a puncture. We visited an interesting monastery in Logumkloster and very tired we arrived at Romo island. There's a lot of sheep, horses and long-haired cows. Unfortunately, the wind blows strongly from the sea. At night it rained and our bikes stayed outside the tent so the meter got wet and we won't not know how many kilometers we cover :/ Today we visited Ribe, which is the most historic town in Denmark. The view from the cathedral's tower was beautiful. We sleep in rooms designed for campers. There's a school for difficult youth. It looks better than all Polish schools put together. We are enjoying the journey, despite the changing weather. If we have more time, we will post some pictures on the page. Thank you for all the entries to the guestbook
Mysłowice
Our train to Szczecin leaves in 40 minutes. We're afraid if there will be any place for our bikes inside the train. Later we will travel by some German trains. We hope they will work, though there is a railway strike going on. We will try to write the diary as often as we can. You are invited to read.
